How online interior design service Homewings brought a London new build to life, from three continents away.

Hsui’s intercontinental move from Dubai to London could have been an absolute headache. Distance aside, as a high-powered business woman, she had almost given up on getting her new East London flat furnished in time for her arrival. That is, until she came across Homewings; the innovative service that makes the process of decorating any space simple and affordable - all conveniently online. With its per-room flat fees starting at just £199/room, it has set the interior design industry’s priorities straight.

“Homewings removes all of the barriers to entry for people with even the smallest of interior design budgets” says Homewings co-founder Nicolai Watzenig, “giving them access to the right skills, knowledge and insight from experienced professionals, but at a fraction of the cost. Our £199/room package would cost upwards of £2,000 through the traditional routes.” And that’s excluding furniture. The simple and interactive design process leads customers like Hsui to interior happiness in just 2 weeks, handling everything from style concept to furniture shopping.

Designing a space with Homewings begins like it ends: with accessibility and convenience in mind. The first step is to take a quick (and fun) style quiz to define your interior style. Then, simply upload some photos and a floorplan, sit back, and let the transformation begin.
Whether you are looking to accessorize a guest bedroom, or decorate an entire 4-bedroom home from scratch, Homewings can make it happen. But now, back to Hsui’s empty flat on the other side of the world…

“I was in Dubai, knowing I needed to be in London 3 months later, but had no time to fly all the way to the UK to see apartments – never mind decorate one!” she admits. “When I found Homewing, it was a sigh of relief.”

It all started with a simple style quiz, “I did it because it seemed fun” says Hsui, “but when I saw how spot on the result was – it motivated me to try the service”. After uploading some photos, a floorplan and lots of Pinterest-worthy home inspiration that she loved, Hsui was matched with Homewings designer Francesco: the king of Scandi interiors.

The Style Concept

Taking her style, budget, timeframe, and inspiration into consideration, Francesco began crafting the perfect style concept for her dreamy London home. “She wanted her new build to feel warm and cosy” says Francesco, “so I made sure to take inspiration from Scandinavian design, because nobody does cosy like the Scandis!”

The final style concept came in the form of an image of a bright and cosy room, with an associated colour scheme of cool creams and smooth greys, with dark geometric accents. Needless to say, for cosy-home-seeker Hsui, this was exactly what she had aspired towards.

With the style concept decided, the fun began. Francesco and Hsui began virtually filling the space through Homewings’ online collaboration platform. Francesco sourced every element of the space, from furnishings to accessories. “Francesco was amazing at taking my feedback on board, always giving several options to make sure he got it just right, and the collaboration platform made it so easy to discuss ideas” says Hsui. By simply ‘liking’ or ‘unliking’ items on her board, Hsui was able to emphasise all the things she loved, and discard the things she wasn’t sure about. This process allowed Francesco to adapt the design accordingly, creating a space that was 100% tailored to her wants and needs.

The Visualisation

With furniture found, and details decided, it was time for Hsui to see her new home come to life. By way of visualisation, Francesco was able to create a picture-perfect representation of how her space would look and feel. “It was incredible to see how everything would come together, and where each piece would go - it was one of the most exciting parts of the design process” says Hsui.

The Final Result

With the final design set, Homewings’ complementary personal shopping service took charge, crafting a personalised shopping list with every item in Hsui’s visualisation, down to the smallest detail. All there was left to do was flick through the items, and select her favourite. “It was hands-down one of the most pleasant shopping experiences! All I had to do was select what I wanted, and Homewings took care of everything else.”

When she landed in London, Hsui had done the impossible: she had furnished an entire flat, from 3 continents away. But, what does she think of her new Scandi home? It’s safe to say, she was very happy with the result. “From where I’m sitting, in my fabulously cosy London home, I have to believe this is the future of interior design.”
