Preparations are now under way for the Easter weekend! For Christians this is a time to remember the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. As part of this religion it is believed that the son of God gave his life for everyone's wrongdoings and then came back to life three days later to fight death and evil. It is an occasion that has been celebrated and honoured for hundreds of years, with numerous traditions developing over time. Nowadays, this holiday has been marked by an increase in commercial ventures, such as the sale and purchase of chocolate eggs and bunnies.
Other traditions and customs that have evolved include parents telling their children that the Easter bunny has been to deliver their treats, turning this into a bit of a treasure hunt! In Scotland and Northern Ireland the rolling of decorated eggs down steep hills and pace egging are still common practices for all the family to enjoy. For religious followers, Sunday Mass and an afternoon feast are also very popular. In countries, such as Germany, homes are decorated with Easter ornaments which is a tradition we think should catch on more in the UK! The Easter tree is a beautiful and very simple addition and is a fun way to get the kids involved. The trees are so eye-catching thanks to the number of colourful and decorative eggs that are hung from their branches. These eggs can either be purchased pre-decorated from retailers or bought in plain white so that the children can get their creative juices flowing! Easter trees are lovely items that will help add a sense of warmth and cosiness to your home.
