Get Rolling with your Rolling Pin

Oh the memories as a child, when I used to bake with my mom. I was 5, maybe 6 years old, and we would start baking all these simple cookie recipes, that seem to be so sophisticated and complicated at the time. I would sit next to my mom, and she would get everything out, the eggs, the flour, the sugar, and I would start getting so excited. It's baking time!
My task was mainly to be in charge of the rolling pin. I would get so mesmerized when she'd get it out, thinking oh wow, now I get to be the boss...! And I would carefully, cautiously, use it to flatten the dough and then use the cookie cutter to transform it into shapes of hearts and stars. Or we would make dumplings together, I would roll a small amount of dough and then pass it on to my mom, who would swiftly add the filling, and then close it tightly in a way that was to me, back then, so impressive.
Now that I'm a mom, my kids also always get super excited about it. As an adult, you wouldn't think how great working with a rolling pin could be! And it's a perfect way to get them busy on a rainy, cold day.

In my old times, you could basically only get the same basic normal wooden model, there would only be one kind you could buy at the supermarket, and well, there wasn't any Internet anyways, so that was it.
I was recently looking for a rolling pin, and I got a little overwhelmed at the selection of rolling pins you can get now. You can still find your traditional, non-frills rolling pin anywhere, but the options are now endless. Whether it is to roll fondant or regular dough, you can find so many different options - not only wood, but also marble or silicon, for its non-stick properties, with your favorite color. You can now even get it personalized with your own name too if you want.
